- We Need Drivers: Several members of our community would like to visit the graves of loved ones in Cedar Park cemetery, NJ. Public transit bus no longer runs there, so they have no way of getting there. The JCC of Washington Heights is looking for volunteers with cars who can drive people over to the cemetery one Sunday, wait for an hour, and then drive them back. Please contact: email@example.com if you can help with this tremendous chesed.
- Help spread Birthday cheer! Email the Chesed Committee (firstname.lastname@example.org) to sign up for a call or visit to a senior on or around their birthday.
- We need 2 volunteers every Shabbat day to visit patients at NY Presbyterian Hospital. Email Ronit Gold at email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org. There are local community members who would love a friendly visitor.
Identifying and Responding to Child Abuse
Dr. Victor Vieth, Director of the National Child Protection Training Center, recently gave a presentation on how to identify, prevent, and respond to child abuse. His presentation slides are available for review.
To determine the appropriate agency to call for filing a report of suspected or known child abuse, search the Child Welfare Information Gateway. If there is insufficient information to form a reasonable suspicion, but you are still concerned, the ChildHelp USA National Child Abuse Hotline (800-422-4453) provides guidance to anonymous callers who are considering filing a report.
