There is much in store for MSJC in the coming year! Whether you are new this year or have seen the shul grow and would like to play an active part in our development, we encourage you to apply for the Board of Trustees!

 

Qualified Mount Sinai members are invited to submit an application to serve on the Board of Trustees. Based on these applications, the Nominating Committee will select a list of candidates for Trustee and Officer positions, which is then voted on by the Shul membership.

Trustees & Officer Requirements

Trustee:

· Member since January 1, 2023

· Cannot be the spouse or child/parent of a concurrently serving Trustee or Officer.

· Must apply or consent to nomination.

· If you previously failed to complete your term as Trustee or Officer, please contact the Nominating Committee for the specific additional required steps.

 

Officer:

· Member since July 1, 2022

· All other requirements for Trustee.

 

President:

· 1 year of Board service (either during the 2022-2023 board year or a prior year).

· All other requirements for Officer.

 

Description of Positions:

The Board is the governing body of the shul. The Board consists of eighteen trustees, which includes the five officer positions: President, Vice-President, Recording Secretary, Treasurer, and Financial Secretary.

Trustees are expected to attend monthly Board meetings and accept responsibility for the general well-being of the Shul.

Brief descriptions of the officer positions are as follows (for more information on trustees and officers, see Articles IV and V of the MSJC Constitution).

 

President:
  • Preside at membership meetings and Board meetings.
  • Sign all official documents and payment instruments prepared by the Treasurer and approved by the Board.
  • Has the power to appoint and disband committees.
  • Has the power to call special Board meetings and special membership meetings.
Vice-President:
  • Perform the functions of the President if the President is absent.
  • Assist the President in fulfilling their duties.
  • Serve on the Finance Committee.
Treasurer:
  • Prepare payment instruments and present to the President for their signature.
  • Make reports to the membership and the Board as to the condition of the Congregation’s treasury.
Financial Secretary:
  • Maintain the financial records of the Congregation and be responsible for handling all accounts of the Congregation.
  • Be the chairperson of the Finance Committee.
  • Prepare a budget for the fiscal year of the Congregation.
  • Arrange quarterly schedules for cash receipts and cash disbursements and semi- annual reports for profits and loss.
Recording Secretary:
  • Keep minutes of membership meetings and board meetings.
  • Issue notices of membership meetings and Board meetings

Petitioners:

Qualified Mount Sinai members who are not selected by the Nominating Committee may submit a petition for inclusion on the ballot for a Trustee or Officer position. Petitions require the signatures of the petitioner and 10% of the Shul membership that was eligible to vote on January 1, 2023, of which the exact number will be made available by the Nominating Committee upon request. Petitions will be due by June 6, 2022.
