Dr. Jeffrey Gurock will speak on

"American Jewry's Historical and Contemporary Scoreboard"

Through the metaphor of athleticism, Dr. Gurock will examine the challenges American Jewry has faced to its status in the 20th century and the issue of religious survival in contemporary times. 

A light breakfast will be served.

 Jeffrey S. Gurock is the Libby M. Klaperman Professor of Jewish history at Yeshiva University. He is the author or editor of twenty-one books and over 100 scholarly articles and reviews. In 2013, his book Jews of Gotham won the National Jewish Book Award from the Jewish Book Council. He also received national recognition for his work, A Modern Heretic and a Traditional Community; Mordecai M. Kaplan, Orthodoxy and American Judaism which won the Saul Viener Prize from the American Jewish Historical Society.A leader among American Jewish historians, he served for 20 years as an editor of American Jewish History, the leading journal in the field and was twice the chair of the Academic Council of the American Jewish Historical Society. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy for Jewish Research and the New York Academy of History.
